Academic Leadership

Defining the standard, not just meeting it
The UTI Institute exists because its founders have spent more than a decade shaping how recurrent UTI is understood, taught and governed – in the operating theatre, in the literature, in Parliament and at the world’s leading urological forums. The accreditation standards are built directly on that authority.
Advising national policy
Professor Yang is a formally invited expert member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on UTIs, contributing directly to policy reform on diagnosis, treatment and prevention. He is also a member of Beyond Antibiotics, an international research group informing UK government strategy on antimicrobial resistance.
This places the Institute’s standards within the national conversation on AMR – one of the WHO’s top global health threats – rather than apart from it.

Editing the definitive text
Professor Yang is Lead Editor of the definitive international textbook on urinary tract infections, Female Urinary Tract Infections in Clinical Practice, published by Springer Nature – the world’s largest medical publisher. The second edition (2026) is in preparation, directing a global faculty across the UK, USA, Europe, Hong Kong and China to codify international guidance on intracellular bacterial communities and antimicrobial alternatives.

Training the next generation
Professor Yang was selected to serve as director of the Urinary Tract Infection teaching course at the International Continence Society (ICS), one of urology’s foremost international training bodies – teaching the structured, evidence-led approach the Institute now accredits.
Both founders lecture internationally, with invited teaching across Australia, Argentina, the USA and Europe.

A trusted public voice
The founders’ clinical insights and research are regularly sought by the Royal Society of Medicine, the BBC and major international news outlets, educating both the medical community and the public on recurrent UTI, antibiotic resistance and modern prevention.
