On-Site Interpretation

Translating diagnostics into targeted clinical action

On-site interpretation is central to delivering timely, accountable care in recurrent and complex UTI management. Diagnostics alone do not improve outcomes – clinical expertise must translate findings into structured treatment decisions without unnecessary delay.

This standard defines how accredited centres integrate diagnostic results into clearly documented care pathways. The objective is rapid, evidence-led decision-making aligned with antimicrobial stewardship.

The UTI Institute Accreditation recognises clinics that embed structured interpretation frameworks within multidisciplinary, governance-led systems.

Why this matters

Delayed or inconsistent interpretation of diagnostic findings can prolong symptoms, increase uncertainty and contribute to repeated empirical prescribing.

Structured interpretation ensures results are assessed within defined clinical criteria rather than individual preference. It reduces variability and strengthens accountability across the treatment pathway.

Accreditation formalises this integration, ensuring diagnostic insight is converted into targeted, patient-specific intervention.

Structured capability across three interconnected domains

Accredited centres must demonstrate each domain within documented, governed clinical pathways.
Defined Interpretation Frameworks

Clinics must operate within clearly documented frameworks that guide how diagnostic findings are reviewed and acted upon, including structured decision trees linking microbiological, anatomical and functional findings to defined treatment pathways.

Stewardship-Aligned Prescribing

Accredited centres must demonstrate how interpretation aligns with antimicrobial stewardship principles. Prescribing should be targeted and proportionate, reducing unnecessary antibiotic exposure while maintaining clinical effectiveness.

Multidisciplinary Oversight

Where appropriate, interpretation should involve multidisciplinary input, particularly in persistent or treatment-resistant cases. Documented case discussions, referral pathways and escalation protocols form part of accountable advanced practice.

Indicators of advanced practice

Clinics operating within this standard typically demonstrate:
Rapid integration of diagnostic findings into treatment planning
Clear documentation linking results to prescribing decisions
Reduced reliance on empirical antibiotic escalation
Structured multidisciplinary case review where required
Ongoing review of diagnostic performance and outcomes

Who this standard is designed for

This accreditation pillar is intended for specialist clinics managing recurrent, persistent or complex UTIs where diagnostic nuance directly influences treatment direction.

It is suited to centres operating integrated diagnostic and treatment pathways.

It is not designed for routine or episodic UTI management settings.

Advancing the Global Standard

The UTI Institute Accreditation ensures advanced practice is applied systematically, responsibly and within defined governance frameworks. If your clinic reflects these principles, we invite you to formalise that expertise.

Urinary tract infections are among the most prevalent infections globally, yet they remain critically underserved. For too long, patients have faced outdated diagnostics, a severe lack of research funding, and a reliance on oral antibiotics that disrupts the gut biome and fuels antimicrobial resistance. This status quo is unsustainable.

The UTI Institute was founded to change this paradigm. We aim to be the definitive hub for excellence, driving collaborative research, offering a trusted network of expert clinics, and delivering advanced, streamlined care. We are committed to leading the way in driving innovation, challenging the status quo, and ultimately transforming UTI care for patients globally.
